N-Acetyl Cysteine by Metabolic Maintenance

N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC) is a specially modified form of the dietary amino acid cysteine. There is no daily requirement for NAC, and it is not found in food; however, studies reveal that NAC taken orally helps the body make the important antioxidant glutathione, and is therefore beneficial in detoxification pathways and hepatic function. It has shown promise for a number of conditions, especially chronic bronchitis and influenza. Originally created as a pharmaceutical mucus-reducing agent, N-Acetyl Cysteine acts as a mucolytic agent by breaking the double sulphur bond.*
